This time around, the staff of The Reverse Mentoring Practice travelled to Birmingham for our quarterly face to face meeting. We aimed to use this couple of days to:
- Look back to move forward
- Talk about what members of staff’s self-care battery has looked like over the last few months
- Evaluate our priorities and decide what balls we can and can’t drop

Shout out to the wonderful team at Ikon Gallery for allowing us to use their incredible space for our meeting!
Looking back to move forward
The Reverse Mentoring Practice is a spin out company of the University of Nottingham, but what were the steps needed to get there?
Ben Sullivan, our CEO, took us through the journey and showed us what he and Stacy hoped to achieve with the company. A great exercise to get back to basics and look at what everyone is doing on a day to day, and if we’re working towards those plans that our CEO and CSO set at the start.
Ben even told us that he and Stacy hadn’t even met in person before creating the company together. Talk about faith!
Self-care battery
Our specialist practitioner Adriana Salazar Méndez took us through this exercise which allowed us all examine our individual self-care battery levels and really think about how we look after ourselves. It was such an insightful activity and discussion which really helped us to connect as a team.
In a busy environment where all our staff are all over the country, activities like this are so important!
Dropping balls
What do you do in your company to determine what your priorities should and shouldn’t be? Have you considered writing them down on colourful balls and then throwing them to your colleagues to read out by any chance?

We all had a wonderful few days together to socialise and strategise.

Adriana and Ben also gave Stacy a lovely gift! The can says ‘Hello my name is Stacy. They call me Hell.’
Do you recognise the song?
Stacy said about her gift: “It was completely silly, but I LOVE silliness. And the hell bit might be true…I keep striving to be better!”
Shout out to Robina for recommending the wonderful Malaya restaurant in the Arcadian in Birmingham City Centre for their hospitality and fantastic food.
